DescriptionAny non-federal government organization (private company, university or college, non-profit organization and provincial or municipal government) can become a recipient of Career Focus funding when it is approved to hire an eligible intern to work on research and development projects that are within the mandate of NRCan. Partners can receive a contribution payment for a portion of the intern's salary. The intern is an employee of the recipient. 
 
Internships can start at any time throughout the year, based on project requirements and funding available. The maximum contribution per internship from the Science and Technology Internship Program fund is $13,200 over a maximum of 52 weeks.

EligibilityAges: 15 year(s) - 30 year(s) 
 
An intern is eligible if s/he is:  
*Out-of-school, unemployed or underemployed and not in receipt of Employment Insurance (EI) benefits at any time during the internship  
*Graduated, with a post-secondary degree or diploma in a relevant natural science field such as earth science, forestry, energy and mineral and metals, within the last 2 years  
*30 years of age or less at the start of the internship  
*Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or persons who have been granted refugee status in Canada and are legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations; and 
*A first-time youth participant placed in the Career Focus Program under the Youth Employment Strategy (YES)
